Firstly length of the putter is extremely important so that the eye line at address is 1-2 inches inside the ball. If the putter is too long this increases the distance of the eye line inside the ball and too short could push it outside the target line.
If the putter is too long this usually results in the player pushing a lot of putts and if is too short then putts can be pulled as this mostly results in a swing path that starts too far outside the intended line. Lastly in order that the putter meets the ball squarely at impact you need a putter that compliments your putting action. If your stroke is fairly straight then a face balanced or minimum toe flow putter works best.
As the stroke works with an increasing arc then putters that increase the toe flow are required to maximise the number of putts holed. Below is a picture showing putters with increasing toe flow from left to right.
An enormous well done to the Pearson Ladies in qualifying for the quarter finals.
I think this is the first time in approximately 10 years so it really is a brilliant achievement.
Onwards and upwards girls!!
