Practice better in 2017

Firstly let me wish you all a Happy New Year.

As touched upon before Christmas I will be giving tips on how to practice better and therefore achieve better results on the course. The first part of this is to discuss the importance of the position of the clubface in relation to the swing path. Knowing how this affects the ball flight should at the very least should allow you to consider how you may make changes to get those better results.

As an example if the ball starts left of target the club face at impact will be left of target. Should it then fade/slice as well then the swing path will be left of the square position to the clubface. Should it have stayed straight then club head and path would have been square to each other. Finally had it then hooked/drew left as well then the swing path would have been right of the square position of the clubface. Obviously every variation could be gone through but with the above in mind I think you should be able to think of the reverse situations plus the when the ball starts on line the clubface is at the target at impact the swing path laws will then apply to any deviation in the flight.

As a starting point with this knowledge checking fundamentals such as grip, ball position and body alignment are good places to start. Grip in particular has a massive impact on whether the clubface will return properly to the ball at impact, but this is an area we all the feeling of change however the small term pain is almost always out weighed by the long term benefits.

For further advice on this I am always available to discuss it further or click here to book a lesson

Hope to see you all soon back on the course Tim.
